The first set was Trey solo acoustic and the second set was electric TAB. Alumni Blues was dedicated to the students who were skipping finals to see the show. Trey performed Billy Breathes on piano; this was interrupted by Trey relating a story about a conversation that he had with Neil Young, when Neil recommended that Trey move around during the solo set to keep the audience interested. Fluffhead was not followed by Fluff’s Travels. Alumni, Fluffhead, and Bug were TAB debuts. This gig was originally scheduled to take place at the Madison Civic Center and was later rescheduled for the smaller Oscar Meyer Theatre.

I had an absolute blast at this show. Being the first of Trey's solo gigs, I think this tour is the best TAB there is, and frankly, I don't have much desire to see them again.

It was a beautiful day in Madison. My buds and I had taken the long way the rte, stopped in some backwater bars on the way, and showed up with a nice little Miller High Life buzz on…

We kn ew that the first set was acoustic, but we have no idea what would be played. Was t gonna be Phish? New stuff? Unreleased solo Trey stuff? The energy was palpable in that room, but also very, very respectful.

BOTT was a great way to start it off, and it is still the way I hear that song when it is mentioned. Josie Wales (then Minestrone I believe) was beautiful and vastly underplayed. The mistake on Billy Breathes was hysterical and something that I had certainly never seen up to that point. The Alumni tore the roof off. This is before the Alpine bust out, and a lot of the people in that room (myself included) thought the chances to hear that song had passed them by. The acoustic Fluffhead was an incredible way to wind down the set.

The First Tube opener and Gotta Jibboo from this are still my preferred versions. The Jibboo was in constant rotation for quite some time. Circles deserves a lot more spins as does Somantin.

This is a really enjoyable night of tunes and there are some great boots of it floating around. I recommend to anyone, both as a great show and an artifact of what Trey shows were like back in the day.

I put this show on about the same level as 05/04/1999.

Again, just not a lot that stands out. I'm beginning to realize that Sand, Gotta Jibboo, and O-o-h Child are the only real jam vehicles of '99 TAB. So if none of those produce a unique jam, there really isn't going to be much for me to say about the show other than that it's well played. TAB debut of Bug sounds nice.
