This gig was a benefit for the Pangaea Project, and featured music, poetry, and multimedia presentations. Two sets of largely improvised music were performed by multiple combinations of musicians, including an improvisational exercise led by Kai Ekhardt and full Everyone Orchestra jams conducted by Tye North. Fish described and led a “Find your own Hey” jam (Phish’s traditional jamming exercise). The encore was a Maya Dornled sing along of “And We Bid You Goodnight.” The main participants for the two shows were: Fish (drums); Tony Furtado (banjo, guitar); Kai Ekhardt (bass); Maya Dorn (vocals, guitar); Libby Kirkpatrick (vocals, guitar); Jans Ingber (hand drums, vocals); Matt Butler (drums, vocals); Julia Butterfly Hill (poetry); Tye North (conducter, bass, guitar); John Whooley (saxophone); Damian Erskine (bass); Asher Fulero (keyboards, DJ); and Scott Law (guitar). Special guests for this performance were Dennis Kucinich (words, tambourine) and Damien Aiken (saxophone).

Most worthy of mention on Phish.net was a unique event in Phishtory: it was announced that Jon Fishman would explain and lead the ensemble through Phish's old "Find Your Own Hey" improvisation. It began with a long-winded explanation of the practice from Fish, who then began the jam with a group of 15 or so musicians. It started slow, with the HEY being passed around the circle, and then something bizarre began to develop...sure enough, after a few minutes, this large group of musicians from such diverse backgrounds began to sound a whole lot like a 1994 type-2 Phish jam.
This show has so many highlights. Among my personal favorites was an opening invocation by Dennis Kucinich, dual-throat singing by John Whooley and Fish leading into an amazing Cypress Grove with Tony Furtado. And a whole bunch of powerful conducted jams that powerfully engaged band and audience alike.
Thankfully I was allowed to film the show, and much of it was released on a limited DVD and can be watched online. Enjoy!
